Who Could Be a Model?

Modeling is not solely about looks, it’s about selling, representing, and marketing a design, a product, and/or a brand. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. A company or designer will seek individuals that fit to market a particular brand for them. Everyone has a unique feature that makes them, them, and different from the next person (and usually a look that consumers can relate to). Therefore, anyone interested in becoming a model, certainly can, but must possess other characteristics and personality traits to be successful.

Honest Presentation

Your photo may get you in the door, but without business sense, the skill of acting, and an unforgettable personality, you are looking at a rough road to travel on.

This is Your Business
Having business sense is one of the most important qualifications of becoming a model because it is your business. Whether this profession is full time or part time, you are operating your own business. You are the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of YOU. You make your own hours, which constitute how much money you make, and you must market yourself (regardless if you seek a talent agency) to keep up with the competition. With a business sense, you must represent professionalism at all times. You must show up to appointments on time, dress properly, follow directions, act accordingly in your immediate environment, and handle all bookings and cancellations professionally.

You Can’t ‘Act’ Like You Want To
You will not be hired to be yourself. It is not what you are being paid for. You will be paid to act or portray a character in an advertisement, movie/film/theatre, or commercial. To act, does require some skill or natural talent, but in any type of modeling you do, you must act, even in photoshoots. The photographer will ask you to look happy, look sad, look scared, look fierce. However, nothing is driving the emotions you just must act and look as if something is.

The modeling industry is a tough one for most starting out. You will be rejected more times than you’d like to remember. Therefore, loving the industry is a must because the passion will drive you to conquer those defeats.
